VERGER Champêtre
The holidays are for spending time with family, friends and furry friends too! Just an hour drive outside Montreal awaits Verger Champêtre, a charming farm and orchard. Located in Granby, Verger Champêtre is home to 250 animals, making it the perfect place to find furry friends. Here we met an adorable new friend Chrystel, a beautiful alpaca with a mesmerizing smile and unwavering confidence in where she wanted to go. Our family was excited to walk an alpaca, and Chrystel gave us quite a memorable tour!
The leisurely stroll takes 20 minutes and you may choose to walk with an alpaca or a miniature horse. The animals enjoy the company and the exercise, but be forewarned that the stroll may be cut short at any time for their well-being. It’s all about making sure they are happy, and Chrystel was happy indeed. She cheerily took charge and led us through an idyllic trail full of evergreen trees. We quickly realized that we weren’t walking an alpaca, she was walking us!
Our time with Chrystel was definitely the highlight but there’s plenty to see and do! There are 2.8 km of trails to discover, bonfires, a petting zoo with even more furry friends! Goats, sheep, deer, peacocks, rabbits, and chickens… and a few baby animals too. We were lucky to see a baby alpaca and little lamb!
Plus, if you haven’t gotten a Christmas tree yet and want to cut your very own, there are 15,000 to choose from! Chopping trees may not be my thing, it’s cafés that are my calling. Verger Champêtre’s quaint café has an assortment of home-cooked goodies such as traditional tourtière, quiches, chicken pot pie, smoked meat lamb lasagna, and sausage pizza. Then there are the scrumptious baked goods, including their popular pies. It’s the perfect way to cap off your visit.
Hurry, they close for the season from January to May. So if you want to walk an alpaca, you have until the end of this month to get those steps in! And if you go, be sure to say hi to Chrystel for us.
