LAURA CASELLA
TV Anchor/Host, Global Montreal
I am a proud second-generation Italian Canadian born and raised in Saint-Leonard. I have been working in broadcasting in Montreal since 2007, having covered some major stories, including the papal conclave in Rome, Italy. I am currently the host of Global News Morning on Global Montreal, my second home for the past 5 years. I am the proud mommy to two girls Ella, 6, and Gia, 2.
How do you define joy?
Joy for me is found in the small and simple things that happen every day. I feel joyful seeing my daughters hug each other good morning and goodnight, it’s watching my daughter score a goal at her soccer game and the excitement splashed across her face, or getting some “me time” curled up on the couch with a big blanket, ice cream (or chips depending on my mood), and catching up on my favourite shows. Where’s your happy place?
My happy place is at home. I am a homebody so I just love spending time with my family at home, but I have no problem spending that time on a beautiful beach with the sound of the ocean waves and smell of salt water. What inspires you most?
My kids inspire me every day. It’s just amazing to watch them grow and become more independent. As parents, we teach them so much, but they teach us so much too. They inspire me to follow my dreams and work hard, to take a break and enjoy the simple things, to laugh more, and do the best that I can so I can be the best mom for them.
What are you most thankful for?
I am most thankful for my kids because they have taught me so much. I have learned to appreciate myself more because they always see the best in me, I’ve learned to appreciate the little things, they make me laugh, they also know how to push my buttons (right moms)?! and that pushes me to be a more patient and better person. If you had an extra hour in the day, what would you do in that time?
I would probably sleep which I know sounds boring but when you are a morning show host that wakes up at 3:30 a.m. and a mom to two young kids that demand your attention all the time, sleep is a real luxury.
What small pleasures do you want to enjoy more every day?
More sleep, hot showers or baths, more time to read and watch TV, more fun with my kids with no schedule, dinners outside, a nice massage or pedicure never hurt either. Lunch with friends. What always makes you smile?
As brutal, as the wake ups are coming into work every day makes me smile. When you love what you do, everything is easier. Waking up on the weekend with my kids in bed always makes me smile too. Until they start asking a million questions 😉What made you happy when you were a child?
So many things but I’ll say waking up on Sunday mornings to smell my mom’s tomato sauce cooking in the kitchen, eating together as a family, vacationing with my cousins, and coming home for lunch every day from school to watch the Flintstones.
If you could travel to the happiest place in the world right now, where would you go?
Amalfi Coast is one of my favourite places that I have travelled to so definitely I would choose there or anywhere in Italy and I would eat all the pasta, prosciutto, and cheese I could.
What do you celebrate most in life?
It is something I feel we should all celebrate more, and that is our accomplishments. Often times we focus on what we failed at or what we could have done better, that we forget to appreciate the good and celebrate our wins. I try to celebrate how far I have come and I share that joy with my family.
